A Man’s Table

Husband builds a table
An heirloom to design
With budget limited
Crafts it out of pine

Wants to keep it perfect
Protect it every way
Free from stains or denting
Cleans it everyday

But our life is messy
As Grandma spills her wine
Pencils press through homework
Dents from dinner time

Getting agitated
Desire of his plan
To keep the table perfect
Falls out of his hands

Table of his family
Stands the test of time
Years pass by too quickly
End of life we find

Old man sits at table
His touch runs over pine
With grateful memories
Of gifts of plan divine
