Blessed on Fathers’ Day

Sitting in the sunset
Of this Fathers’ day
Reflecting on the blessings
That have come my way

From those gone before me
Some are here no more
Their sacrifice for me
Love that they out pour

Souls that now surround me
I hope they truly know
That they are my joy
And how I love them so

Oh, what did I do?
To receive this blessed fate
To know that God is good
From these blessings great

A reflection of the light
That my Lord does share
From the source of One
Love beyond compare

So grateful is my heart
May my soul confess
That I live a life
In which I’m truly blessed

Negative Thanksgiving

I’m thankful to clean dishes
That kept my belly fed
I’m thankful for my housework
A roof over my head

I’m thankful dumping garbage
For blessings overflow
I’m thankful paying taxes
For a job, I go

I’m thankful for the traffic
Because I have a car
I’m thankful for the darkness
So, I can see the stars

I’m thankful for sore muscles
Reminds me I still live
I’m thankful for thoughtless
A practice to forgive

I’m thankful for my enemy
Prayers’ opportunity
I’m thankful in my valleys
For my Lord’s dependency

Gratitude

To be grateful is to recognize
God’s love in everything
For indeed He has
Given us everything

Every breath is love
Every moment, grace
For it brings in Him
Immense grace to embrace

Take nothing for granted
Unresponsive, never
To wonder of awakening
To praise our God forever

For the grateful person
Knows God is good, above
Not only by hearsay
But experience of love

Thomas Merton ~ To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything He has given us – and He has given us everything. Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him. Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted, is never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder and to praise of the goodness of God. For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference.

Quotes of Gratitude

An early-morning walk
A blessing for the day
A friend along my side
Is found when I pray

Taking time to stop
Enjoy this moment here
For its now or never
Eternal with a prayer

When I complain
A prayer to rebuff
For gratitude makes
All I have be enough

Gratitude is riches
Complaint is poverty
Oh Lord, here what you bless
Please let my treasure, be

Thanks for Being There

A great celebration
A feast on the menu
With joy blessed by family
For I’ve been there too

All by myself
Alone, feeling blue
A heavy cross’ burden
For I’ve been there too

A day to give thanks
To our Father turn to
We nourish the soul
For I’ve been there too

In joy and sorrows
I am your friend true
The way, eternal
For I am there too

Eyes of Memorial Day

He sits in the shade
This Memorial Day
Vietnam on his hat
And mustache of gray

He stares in the distance
Somewhere else he resides
In memories stain
He’s still wounded inside

A past moments headline
Of lives that were lost
The price of our freedom
He knows the true cost

This days true meaning
In his eyes found deep
A prayer of thanks offered
Let our gratefulness seep

Meister Eckhart’s Thank You Prayer

If the only prayer
We said, was thank you
That would be enough
Do you think that’s true?

Acknowledging our God
In gratitude proclaim
A heart of thankfulness
Hallowed be his name

In good times and in bad
We are thankful still
On earth as in heaven
Let it be your will

Blessed with daily bread
Grace in all we see
Dependent for the gift
Of your great mercy

I think it is enough
When humble our heart be
And our soul is placed
Within the love of thee

Word of Gratefulness

In this times reflection
One word let soul speak
That of gratefulness
Of humbleness to seek

Knowing of Your goodness
Kind beyond compare
Gentle grace bestowing
Abundantly You share

One of soul’s dependence
No greater treasure be
Nothing of deserving
Blessed such great mercy

Let it be our vision
The way within the heart
In every gift receiving
With this word let thought start

Did You?

Did you paint the sunrise?
To turn my view above
Warmth upon us all
Rays of touching love

Did you ignite the water?
In waves of shining light
Flowing gift of peace
Lost in new insight

Did you compose the birdsong?
Caressing lonely heart
Singing of the deep
Connection to impart

Did you speak the silence?
In wisdom of sweet peace
That drew soul into prayer
My will here to release

Did you send an angel?
Of broken soul to me
With word of touching grace
With Your son’s eyes to see

Did you send these blessings?
Or are they always here
And today I took the time
Just to be aware

A Good Life

You know you’ve lived a good life
When you learn to see
The older that you get
More grateful that you be

Counting of our blessings
Of joy and times of strife
Ways that God has woven
Our tapestry of life

Seeking of divine
Wisdom that we know
Of things in this world
In time to let them go

Focusing of lens
One to see God’s view
Soul be of His molding
Letting light shine through

Cherishing the moments
We fall in God’s embrace
Remembering the truth
That everything’s His grace

From this life of passing
Of lessons we will be
A connoisseur of love
Grateful eternally
