Two Great Equalizers

Facts of being human
Truths we all do share
Things we have in common
Let’s ponder some right here

Each of us are born
All of us will die
Two great equalizers
To all of us apply

Every soul is loved
And offered grace the same
A choice to be reborn
Eternity to claim

Come share the good news
Our Lord waits patiently
Open the door wide
Embrace Him, joyfully

Inspired by My Pastoral Ponderings

Measurement of Life

At the end of our lives
We count up our treasure
Was is the unit
We use for our measure

For many use years
That went by to fast
Planning for future
Or longing for past

Some use achievements
In them to reside
Of what they accomplished
A reflection of pride

Others, occasions
Of happy days
Sweet memories
All drift away

But here’s a suggestion
Gratefulness to employ
With God in each moment
It’s a life of joy

Of This Easters Day

Arise into the silent dawn
Of an April ‘morn
A sensing in the soul
Of blossoms breath be born

A binding of remembrance
Within the womb so deep
Of new life into being
Creators love to seep

Find me now within this love
The core of Presence be
That brings all things to life
Instill this joy in me

Spirit of the rising Son
Who rolls the stone away
Birth within His passion
Of this Easters day

Gods’ Love

As a little child
I was taught to see
Through prayer of the Our Father
Our God loves tenderly

In the teenage years
I grew rebelliously
Though I didn’t see it
God loves unselfishly

My spouse of the meeting
A binding of the three
In our celebration
God loved joyfully

A blessings gift of children
A new view now to see
Perspective of the Father
Love unconditionally

A call of the returning
To seek forgivingly
New seeds of the planting
God loves mercifully

As mid-life was approaching
Less years in front of me
Roots of contemplation
God loves intimately

Though eyes grow old and weary
The soul can clearly see
A grateful hearts reflection
God loves tremendously

When the journeys finished
Hope for us to see
The facets of God’s love
For all eternity

Words of Our Life

A question to ponder
Of joy or of strife
What are the words
That have shaped your life

Words that cut deep
That make the way rough
Wounds of the heart
You’re not good enough

Or of performance
Of things you must do
If you’re a good person
I’ll be proud of you

Let us take control
To let the soul, grow
For it is time now
To let those words go

Found in the scriptures
One Word to show
Let it shape our life
Its Jesus to know

A Beautiful Life

Just a chance encounter
A woman cut my hair
But of greater value
Where words she had to share

From another country
A Mother and a wife
But those of her first words
“I have a beautiful life”

She offered her story
Of near death and of fear
Tragedy avoided
Power of her prayer

Simple of the daily
In sharing of the bread
Add water to the soup
An even more are fed

A lesson of perspective
When seen in God’s view
That we all can say
My life is beautiful too!

Time of Our Life

The time for choosing
Is in this life now
A choice of eternal
A gift God endows

Not only is this “time”
A choosing of our call
But it’s the only “time”
There will be at all

For “time” will be no more
After this life, be
As we understand it
Just sequentially

A very different “time”
From what we understand
Our “eternity” sealed
At time of death we land

Eleven Simple Words

At time of our passing
Not sure what to say
Advice to die well
Before we go on our way

Eleven simple words
“I forgive you”
“Please forgive me”
Next is, “Thank You!”

And the most important
Words for us to say
Is that, “I love you”
And bow our heads to pray

As we think about it
Why should we wait that long?
Words to share each day
A practice of lifelong

Verses of Life

In life’s deepest valleys
Or in our darkest night
Let us proclaim
Walk by faith, not by sight

When lost within the way
Not sure how to cope
For I know the plans for you
Your future and your hope

When doubt overwhelms
Worlds temptation shows
Draw to inner prayer
Lord to whom, shall we go?

When in life of living
Quotes can be cliché
The answers wrapped in love
When we pause to pray
