A Still Small Voice

In our world of noise
Of worries and fear
Constant distractions
Come listen right here

Settling the soul
Of a silent prayer
For a still small voice
Sometimes hard to hear

It can be very quiet
Our Lord is speaking clear
Voice of love within you
You may have heard it there

Listen to Him saying
I love you, He proclaims
Come and follow me
Calling you by name

(based upon words by Henri Nouwen)

Movements of Henri

Being of the humble
Of vulnerability
Moving from opaqueness
To transparency

A mask of deception
Leads us to despair
Moving from illusion
To Your truth through prayer

Hearts of the broken
A greater hope, employ
Moving from our sorrow
To eternal joy

Human of emotion
Chose our attitude
Moving from resentment
To One of gratitude

Souls of belonging
Past lies of delusion
Moving from exclusion
To one of inclusion

Mortal bones and body
Draw the Spirits breath
Moving from denying
to befriending death

Sinners of worried
Our true treasure find
Moving from our fear
To love of the divine

(based upon words by Henri Nouwen)

Shaped

Each day we’re being shaped
This truth now let us see
Physically and mental
And soul spiritually

A gift granted to us
That we are truly free
If we do ignore it
World ends up shaping me

With two enemies
Of anger and of greed
Let us claim our choices
New way to proceed

But where shall we turn?
Three actions lead the way
Solitude and silence
Seeking let us pray

One of transformation
Through Spirit set apart
Fruit of actions be
Flowing from the heart

Solitude and Community

(Based upon words by Henri Nouwen)

Through the discipline
Of solitude, seeing
We discover God’s space
In our most innermost being

Through the discipline
Of community
We discover Gods’ space
In our life, you and me

Both disciplines belong
Realization embrace
Within and among us
Are the same space

In that space divine
God’s Spirit prays
Let us seek it
All of our days

Heart Words

Words that are not flesh
Remain such, just “as words”
Do not affect our lives
Power is not heard

If one says “I love you”
Without emotion deep
They do more harm than good
Connection is not reaped

But if the same is spoken
Flowing from the heart
Something special happens
As new life they impart

It is of importance
That we keep in touch
With our source of words
Not just speak them much

Great is our temptation
A “pleaser” to us be
If just of pleasing words
No roots in our words be

In our hearts be rooted
Word within the way
Taking time in silence
Words of heart we pray
